Prof. Sebastian Marquardt leads the Marquardt Lab at the Institute of Biochemistry and Biology, University of Potsdam, Germany. His research operates at the interface of RNA Biology, Gene Expression and Epigenomics, with a particular focus on how the Non-Coding Genome contributes to functions in eukaryotic cells.

He was a Group Leader at Lund University (2024) and the University of Copenhagen (2015–2024), and held research positions at Harvard Medical School and the Whitehead Institute at MIT. He completed his PhD at the John Innes Centre, UK, with Prof. Caroline Dean.

His work has been recognised with an ERC Starting Grant, EMBO Young Investigator status, the Novo Nordisk Foundation Ascending Investigator award, and the John Innes Foundation Award for Scientific Excellence.
